After reading a huge debate on Facebook about Pro-life vs. Pro-choice that was harsh and upsetting this is how I feel:
"For the life of me I will never understand political debates on social media! Democrat, Republican, Pro Life, Pro Choice, Pro Gay Marriage, Anti Gay Marriage, Obama, Romney, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy......It's not that I don't have an opinion, a passion, or a voice, it's that I KNOW everyone has one too and shoving my agenda on other people for the sake of feeling "right" just makes us irritated with each other. Be okay with people not agreeing with you and LOVE them anyways!!! Heaven ain't on earth!"
Friends, It just does no good. It really doesn't. In what world do we live in where we debate with someone about a political issue and their minds change?? When does that really happen?
I'm just so saddened by this. I am saddened for those of us who follow Christ, because I think we have lost our way a little. I am not saying "The world is going down it's way through the porcelain throne so let's just give up and make peace signs!"
I'm not saying that. My husband says this about debates "If at the end of any debate or argument, if the person on the other end doesn't know that you love them or more importantly that Jesus loves them, you've accomplished nothing."
I don't know if it was working with Younglife for 4 years that got me used to the fact that no matter how much you try to talk to a kid about Jesus, some don't get it, and they look at the Christian life and say "no thanks" and I would get so discouraged. But what I learned was that no matter what you say, no matter how many times you say it...people are going to believe and do what they want. Freewill can be that way. But I realized the best thing I could do is pray. Pray for hearts to change. Pray for God to heal. And pray that my heart would LOVE ANYWAYS. Even if I didn't get it.
Because I cannot fix the parts of the world I don't like, but I can love the people in it.
And the battle was already won anyways. Victory has always been and will always belong to God. Not to you and not to me.
